I am a member of TMC’s Department of Surgery, and a Professor of Surgery at UMKC and the Paul Coffey Endowed Chair of Surgery for Education. I have received many honors and awards, including being named one of Ingram’s Magazine Top Doctors. I have special interest in Violence Prevention, Surgical Education, Shock, Sepsis and Surgical Outcomes as well as appropriate and efficient surgical and medical billing and capture of charges. My major focus of research interest is microvasculature damage, as a result of shock, sepsis, and tissue trauma. Currently I am writing manuscripts regarding research involving reactive oxygen species generation, leukocyte adherence and vascular permeability following shock. I also have a keen interest in strategies to improve outcomes of critically injured patients in the ICU. My colleagues and I are currently looking at a number of factors such as ventilator associated pneumonia prevention and interventions by allied health colleagues in the interest of avoiding complications, reducing stay in the hospital and improving functional outcomes.
