Mike Wandling is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas, where he is an acute care surgeon. Dr. Wandling completed his medical school and general surgery residency at Northwestern University, where he also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship and earned a master’s degree in health services and outcomes research. He then completed an acute care surgery fellowship at The University of Texas in Houston. Dr. Wandling’s clinical practice consists primarily of trauma surgery and surgical critical care at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, where nearly 11,000 trauma patients are treated each year. His research interests include evaluating the quality and efficiency of operative and non-operative care in trauma and emergency general surgery. Currently, he has ongoing research projects focused on optimizing management strategies for intermediate- and high-risk choledocholithiasis, managing abdominal wall complications following trauma laparotomy, and he is helping lead the development of the ACS NSQIP Emergency General Surgery Registry.
